Stephen - Integration tools will be a topic for my next article for sure. We use ADmit from Thursby pretty extensively, and we've tried out Centrify. The challenge with third party tools is the lag from OS release to updated tools. Thursby finally released a non-beta client last month, and Centrify is still in beta. That's an awfully long time post-Leopard to getting compatible in a supported way. Thanks for the comment!

Great post!
Just a note... look into Centrify, it allows you to add Group Policy to MAC's. They can change their Password, have basic requirements you enforce on PC's.

Chris - Thanks for the great post. I have been used macs for years and as a pastor at Resurrection have been blessed with Clif and company taking care of technology needs. I appreciate your perspectives on this issue.

Absolutely right. Our default answer is "yes" to solving the problem or meeting the need, not necessarily to the customer's proposed solution. Read between the lines of the proposed solution to get to the need and then come up with a creative, workable way to meet it.

Thanks for the link love. What does it take to get onto your blogroll? ;-)

Great article! Mac's are a support drain for sure. I can't imagine most church's having the budget for spare MacBook's to just sit in inventory, waiting for someone to spill their coffee on their existing one. I've also encountered the 2-3 week turnaround on taking your MacBook to the Mac Store and having them ship it to California for repair. It would be nice if Apple broadened their support options to compete side by side with Dell. I'd also agree with your security/integration concerns and would love to read that article if you decide to write it one day. I've certainly encoutered my fair share of challenges but in the end there's really no stopping the 800lb. Apple marketing gorilla so you may as well accept that they're popular and do the best you can to integrate them into your environment.
